Prof. Dr. Ahmet Vecdi CAN

Curriculum Vitae

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Vecdi CAN was born in Ankara. He finished his primary school in Germany and his high school in Sakarya and the university in Trabzon. After graduating from Karadeniz Technical University, Faculty of Business and Administration in 1996, he  completed his master's degree in 1998 and doctorate in 2002 at Sakarya University, Social Sciences Institute, Faculty of Business and Administration, Department of Accounting and Finance. At the same institute in 1997, he started to work as a Research Assistant. He became an Assistant Professor at Sakarya University, The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in 2002, and then an Associate Professor in the same Accounting and Finance Department. With the establishment of the Faculty of Business Administration, since 2011 he has been working as a professor at this faculty.

He was at the University of Kiel (Christian Albrechts) between 1993-1994.  Between 2000 and 2002, he worked as a visiting lecturer at the University of Hamburg.  Between 2002-2003, he worked as a Deputy Principal at Sakarya University Geyve Vocational School, between 2003 and 2004 as the Founding Director of Sakarya University Ali Fuat Cebesoy Vocational School, between 2005 and 2006 as the Deputy President of Sakarya University Social Sciences Institute and Deputy Head of the Department of Business Administration. Between 2004-2005, he was assigned as a faculty member (reserve officer) at the Turkish Military Academy.

Between 2006-2008, he worked as a Professor at the University of Economy and Enterprise - Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, he was the vice-rector at this university and the dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. In 2007, he became the founding dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Education of the same university.

He worked as the Director of Pamukova Vocational School between 2010-2011 and at Geyve Vocational School between 2011-2014 at Sakarya University.

He was the head of the Department of Business Administration between 2016-2020, and the head of the Department of Accounting and Finance between 2016-2022. He founded the Institute of Business Administration in 2017 and was assigned as the director of this institute until 2019. Between 2014-2020, he was assigend as the dean of the Faculty of Business Administration of the same university.  He still is the President of Sakarya University Accounting and Finance Application and Research Center (MUFAM), which he founded in 2019. At the same time, he currently is the head and the head of the department of the Accounting and Finance Management Department, which was opened in 2020.

He has been the TC YOKAK’s evaluator since 2016 and still takes part in corporate external evaluation, institutional monitoring, institutional accreditation programs and also in the evaluation of national accreditation institutions. In addition, currently takes part in the evaluation of national accreditation bodies. On the other hand, he is a member of the STAR Business and Management Sciences Accreditation Board.

He has been working as a coordinator of many panels and congresses for many years, as a referee for projects, papers and articles, and as editor of books and journals. He has lectured and taught the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in many universities, has provided with conduction in  in many thesis writing preparations.  So far, he has  published 36 books and book chapters, 74 articles and 112 papers. He speaks German and English.

He started to work at the International Vision University  as of September 2022 and was subsequently elected rector.

He is married and a father of two children.
